Job Description

ü  Position responsibilities include the clinical care of gynecologic oncology consultation and surgeries, chemotherapy management.

ü  Provides comprehensive, cutting-edge care for women with gynecologic cancers or other complex pelvic pathology.

ü  Performs physical evaluations and collect detailed medical histories.

ü  Diagnoses and treats reproductive cancers in a multidisciplinary environment.

ü  In addition to medical duties, educate patients and their families on various forms of cancer, possible progression and treatment options.

ü  Leads the surgical care and, if required, will also direct the medical care, including chemotherapy, survivorship and supportive services, with skill and compassion.



ü  Ensure that practice is up to date; this will necessitate the consultant taking responsibility for their Continuing Professional Development

ü  Share responsibility for data protection arising out of the use of computers, and to maintain good practice in the handling of confidential information.

ü  Accountable for improving and complying with infection control practices.

ü  Provide care that promotes optimal functioning and quality of life for each individual patient.

ü  Ensure that all aspects of service are delivered safely and conform to national standards and published guidelines, monitored by regular audit.

ü  Provide timely high quality information that is accurate for patients, families and careers.

ü  Responsible in developing treatment plans according to a great number of factors which covers the nature and type of cancer as well as the patient’s preferences.

ü  Observe the rules, policies, procedures and standards of the Hospital, together with all relevant statutory and professional obligations

ü   Observe and maintain strict confidentiality of personal information relating to patients and staff

ü  Be responsible, with management support, for their own personal development and to actively

ü  contribute to the development of colleagues

ü  Commitment to continual service improvement.

ü  Involvement of service users and all relevant partners who provide shared care in service development and review.

ü  Take reasonable care for your own Health and Safety and that of any other person who may be affected by your acts or omissions at work

ü  Co-operate in ensuring that statutory regulations, codes of practice, local policies and departmental health and safety rules are adhered to

ü  Provide expert guidance and aid in the diagnosis of cancer and where appropriate take over the care of patients.

ü   Provide expertise in the management of cancer through multidisciplinary teams by developing and maintaining collaborative relationships with medical colleagues in other specialties and participating in regular clinical meetings and other professional activities.


ü  Must have a MD/DO degree (or foreign equivalent).

ü  Must have completed and OB/GYN residency and a fellowship in Gynaecologic Oncology.

ü  Must be board-certified in the subspecialty of Gynaecologic Oncology and should have at least seven years of clinical experience in an academic setting, and have proven leadership skills.

ü  Specialized in complex benign gynaecologic surgery, including procedures for advanced-stage endometriosis, fibroids, ovarian and uterine masses, cervical dysplasia, ovarian cysts and risk-reducing surgery to prevent gynaecologic cancers.

ü  Must possess excellent clinical skills, work well in a team-based setting, communicate well and demonstrate a commitment to teaching, mentorship and leadership.  

ü  Further training, usually through a fellowship in gynecological oncology, including surgical procedures such as laparotomies, which involve large abdominal incisions to gain access to the abdominal cavity and women’s reproductive organs.
